Laura has a wealth of experience in the law enforcement and mental health field, spanning over 15 years. Her professional journey includes working in diverse roles such as a military prison, a supermax correctional facility, a major hospital as an Emergency Department social worker, and as a police officer (medical retirement/line of duty injury). She has also served as a co-responding clinician with the Boston Police Department, a graduate school professor, and a business owner at 5-0 Mental Health where she operates as a law enforcement/mental health consultant.
Laura has delivered numerous trainings and classes for multiple police departments and their academies. Previously, she was a member of the SEMLEC CISM team, providing support to individual officers and police departments in dealing with critical incidents, and co-facilitating debriefings following such events. Laura is also involved in the Code 99 team assisting in hostage negotiations and dealing with barricaded subjects with the Boston Police Department. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker with a master’s degree in social work and also holds a Graduate Certificate in Crisis Response and Behavioral Health.
The mission of 5-0 Mental Health is clear: to implement wellness checks within departments, connect first responders with resources, design department-specific training, and provide individual therapy. Laura firmly believes in taking a proactive approach to officer wellness, emphasizing that it will save lives. By providing officers with a culturally competent clinician from outside of their department, the aim is to encourage them to prioritize their mental health, address issues promptly, and reduce the stigma around first responders seeking support. The core belief is that we are stronger together.
